My name is Lauren Fields
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
RMCHI
I started the journey to become a trauma therapist after I healed my own traumatic past. I went from counselor to counselor doing traditional talk therapy trying my best to heal years of crippling depression and anxiety that seemed to be treatment resistant.
But, after one fateful day following traumatic grief from the death of a family member, I was able to access trauma therapy.
And for the first time in a decade and a half, I felt free from much of my symptoms of PTSD and I was able to move forward with my life because for the first time in years, my past was no longer affecting my present.
If you are anything like me, you may have felt misunderstood by counselors who put your ADHD diagnosis and/or your racial/ethnic identity to the side while treating your problems in therapy. Many counselors have neglected both the microagressions and macroagressions you receive from others that have a profound effect on your daily life experiences with friends, family, social groups, peers, school, academia, coworkers, bosses, romantic relationships, and most importantly your self-worth.
For many of us, these aggressions have led to complex trauma from being misunderstood, neglected, shamed or othered. As a Black, neurodivergent woman with a history of traumatic experiences, I have personal experience with being a misunderstood Black woman with ADHD in a White neurotypical world.
Together, we will unpack the complexities, traumatic experiences, nuances, and patterns that are present in your unique neural makeup. You will find out how ADHD has contributed to your traumatic experiences and how traumatic experiences have contributed to your ADHD symptoms.
I primarily work with adult women who have experienced single event and complex trauma from childhood abuse and maltreatment, attachment issues, sexual trauma, rape, intimate partner violence, and domestic abuse. I also work with BIPOC and Non-BIPOC clients and 2SLGTBQ clients. For my clients with ADHD, my personal experience with ADHD provides me with unique insight to help you feel fully heard and understood in session about your unique wiring.
